GMIS ILLINOIS CELEBRATES 100th MEMBER MILESTONE!
Government Management Information Sciences Illinois Chapter (GMIS Illinois) announced that LaSalle County, IL has joined GMIS Illinois as its 100th agency member. This represents an important milestone for GMIS Illinois as its presence continues to grow and its member entities now represent a significant number of municipalities, counties, libraries, park districts & schools throughout the state. The growth of GMIS Illinois from its inception in 1988, with five founding members, to the ever-strengthening professional organization it is today is a great tribute to its volunteer board and hard working members
LaSalle County is located in the north central region of Illinois approximately 90 miles southwest of Chicago. LaSalle County has a population of over 110,00 with the City of Ottawa as the county seat. It's a favorite getaway for families, hikers, boaters, fisherman, campers, cyclists, cross-country skiers and history buffs. The county is well known for its outdoor activities and is home to Starved Rock State Park and boasts over 3,000 acres of lush forests, waterfalls and rivers to explore.
John Haag, Director of Information Technology, joined LaSalle County as the IT Director in 2015 after 12 years in the private sector. When he arrived he quickly realized that the IT Department had many issues and was not respected as the vital part of the organization it was. John, along with his newly hired staff, was able to turn this perception around. At the recommendation of Bryan Hahlbeck, from our vendor member CivicPlus, John joined GMIS Illinois.
John thought this would be a great opportunity to meet people who fully understand the day-to-day challenges of the public sector. LaSalle County was John's first management position and he immediately became aware of the significant differences between private and public sector. GMS Illinois has become a valuable resource in understanding how to work with the public sector requirements. Welcome John and LaSalle County to GMIS!
